Frequently Asked Questions
My child is not failing, so why would he/she need tutoring?
Most children who are tutored are preparing for standardized tests such as the AP or SAT, so the stigma that goes with tutoring needs to be removed. Tutoring is a way to make students better in a particular subject; not just save them from failing.
How often does my child need tutoring?
We recommend at least one hour per week, but depending on the specific need and time frame for improvement, the number of hours per week could increase (depending on the grade level). Still, the number of meetings between your child and the tutor is determined collectively based on availability and can vary depending on the specific situation.
What is the hourly rate?
Our hourly rates are lower than the bigger tutoring companies, and unlike those aforementioned companies, we provide real one-on-one tutoring. The cost per hour lowers depending on the block of hours that you buy. Call today to discuss our rates and call the bigger companies to hear their rates and what they think one-on-one tutoring is.
How are your tutors chosen?
Unlike many of the bigger companies, we only hire certified and experienced teachers. It all starts out with the initial phone interview, which is followed by an in-person interview. Before being placed in our databank of tutors, we complete reference checks, background checks, and require teachers/tutors to provide us with copies of undergraduate/graduate degrees and certifications (which are also verified by us).
What if I do not want the tutor to come to my house?
Some parents like their children to meet at a place outside of their home, so we will gladly send our tutors to your local library. As is the case with in-home tutoring, a parent, guardian, or an adult over 18 years old must be present in the location.
Do you give an initial assessment?
Another thing that the bigger companies do is provide a “detailed assessment” for your child at a “very low price”. These assessments are just another way of getting extra money out of you. Rather than assess your students with tests that have been designed by people who may have never stepped foot in a classroom, our certified and experienced teacher will assess your son/daughter using their individual methods that he/she has used very successfully in his/her own classroom.
In-home tutoring presents a number of scenarios with teacher/tutors entering our private residence, so are you insured?
The Vancheri Academy of Success, Inc. is a fully insured corporation. We will gladly provide you with documentation to verify our insurance.
